Next place to go is called Bioluminescent Bay. It may seem like ordinary bay during the day. However, you will see something different once the night falls. After the sun sets on the horizon, you are going to start seeing natural wonder offered by the bay. Especially during the new moon and full moon, you will see natural light in the water. Blue color shines in the water. It is natural light made by the microorganisms living in the water. The microorganisms produce bioluminescent and it is the source of the light. When you think that seeing the light is not enough and you want to see them closer, you can rent kayak. Kayaking with this beautiful natural color will be great experience. Bioluminescent cannot be found in all beaches so it is special occasion that you cannot miss.
When it talks about beach and sea water, surely it is not only to enjoy the beautiful view from the land. It will be great when you can swim and even snorkel. In some beaches of Vieque Island, you can do these. As for snorkeling, you will get special experiences as you can swim accompanied by the sea turtles. Some water area around Vieque Island is the natural homes of sea turtles so you can find them quite easily, such as when you are snorkeling from Punta Arenas and Mosquito Pier. You can find the rentals of snorkeling gears and later there will also boat that will take you to the best snorkeling spot. Still about beach, you can find one of the unique beaches in Vieque Island. It is the Playa Negra or Black Sand Beach. This beach really has black sand and it is naturally-formed black sand. The beach is quite solitary so you need to walk for around 15 minutes. Even if it is quite solitary, there are available trails and tracks to reach the beach.
Vieque Island is not only about beaches. There are also some historical sites that you can explore. One of them is El Fortin del Conde Mirasol Museum. The museum may look small but it holds the nice history of Vieque Island. You can visit and learn more about its history. This is actually a fortification. It was built in 1845 by Spanish Empire and it was turned into museum in 1980s. In 2017, it got hit by Hurricane Maria and some parts got some damage. Even so, you still can get the preserved area and some collections of history in the museum. Next historical spot is the Puerto Ferro Lighthouse Ruin. This was an active lighthouse in the past but now it has become ruin because there was earthquake in 1925 that destroyed some part of the lighthouse. Because it was a lighthouse, it has nice spot to see the sea and it is worth to explore.
